X-Men: Apocalypse – Bryan Singer Hints At Comic-Faithful Suits

Just yesterday, I was having a conversation with my friend Dan Calvisi, and he commented how the DC Cinematic Universe seems to gravitate towards making the suits look muted instead of having them be the original colorful iconic suits we all know.  He told me that what originally attracted him to the X-Men comic books as a child was seeing the various suits each X-Man was wearing: Cyclops in his blue suit with contrasting yellow visor; Storm in her black-and-white garb; Wolverine in his various looks; Colossus wearing red-and-yellow which stood out even more against his silver metallic body.

Dan wanted Bryan Singer to stop it with the black suits that have become a staple since the first X-Men film, sans the ones seen in X-Men: First Class (2011) which was actually not directed by Singer, though still produced by him.

It seems that Dan may get his wish in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.  In an interview with Yahoo! Movies to promote the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past – The Rogue Cut, a fan with the callsign of XMenNewz asks the director, “Will we ever see the traditional coloured X-Men costumes in the films?”  Bryan Singer had this to say:

"The X-Men are sort of a fighting team, so it was always … you know … an attempt at being realistic to have them in fighting uniforms … flight suits, things like that.  In X-Men: First Class which I produced and wrote the story for, we hark back to the original colors of the original costumes from the 1963 comic — which were all the same, they were uniforms.  They eventually evolved into the colors.  But I will say in X-Men: Apocalypse there is a chance, without giving anything away, that you may get closer to seeing what I think, Mr. XMenNewz, you are interested in seeing.  I know it’s something that I’ve been interested in.  I’ve just always wanted to do it the right way."

There you have it.  Singer may be introducing more comic-faithful suits to the silver screen.  It’ll be interesting to see what he means by “do it the right way.”

X-Men: Apocalypse has a planned release date of May 27, 2016 and will be directed by Bryan Singer and written by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris, and Michael Dougherty, and will star James McAvoy as Charles Xavier / Professor X, Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellan as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkhölme, Nicholas Hout as Hank McCoy / Beast, Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff / Quicksilver, Oscar Isaac as En Sabah Nur / Apocalypse, Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Munroe / Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers / Cyclops, Rose Burne as Moira MacTaggert, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler, Lana Condor as Jubilation Lee, Ben Hardy as Warren Worthington III / Angel, Olivia Munn as Betsy Braddock / Psylocke, and Lucas Till as Alex Summers / Havok.
