The new Spider-Man film reboot now has an official name, and it’s an homage to the comics.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Sony pictures has announced that the official title of its Spider-Man reboot will be Spider-Man: Homecoming. The announcement was made during Sony’s CinemaCon presentation where Tom Holland, who plays Peter Parker / Spider-Man, was brought on stage to present a clip from the still-in-production film. THR gives this description for the footage:

"The first clip from Spider-Man Homecoming showed Holland’s Parker meeting Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, who drops by his Aunt May’s (Marisa Tomei) house."

Along with the announcement, the logo for the 2017 film was also shown.

Many fans will be quick to point out that the subtitle of “Homecoming” may be a giveaway to the plot of the film. “Homecoming” was the story title for The Amazing Spider-Man #252 (May 1984), which had Peter Parker returning home after the events of “Secret Wars.” It also shows Spider-Man wearing, what was then, his new all-black costume.

However, Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman commented that the title is designed to emphasize Peter Parker’s high school age and the character trying to find his way home. This, along with the movies usually not following the story of the comics, for dramatic reasons, make it very much believable that the subtitle is just an homage and not based on any particular past story in print.

For those hankering for a first look at this new younger Spider-Man, you can get your first peek when our favorite web-head makes his debut this summer in Captain America: Civil War. After that, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have promised that characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Spider-Man will make cross-universe appearances in each others movies. It’s surely an “amazing” and “spectacular” time for comic book fans!
