There have been casting rumors swirling and flying around Hollywood and comic book circles alike when it comes to who will land roles in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman. Zack Snyder and Warner Bros have taken their time in finding the right actors for roles and it seems that they’ve now settled on a very prestigious actor to step in legendary shoes.
According to Variety, Oscar winning actor Jeremy Irons has been cast as Alfred in Batman vs. Superman.
The casting is significant in that Irons isn’t a guy you’d typically think of a stepping into the role of a comic book character, but once you hear his name attached to the role you instantly fall in love with the idea.
Irons has a wide body of film work that includes voice roles, such as voicing Scar in The Lion King, action films such as Die Hard: With a Vengeance as well as dramas including his Oscar winning role in Reversal of Fortune.
With Irons cast as Alfred Pennyworth, the main cast seems to have filled out and filming is set to begin soon. We won’t know how well Irons works as Alfred, but so far it seems that Zack Snyder got at least one casting decision right.
