While Warner Bros sorts everything out with Batman vs. Superman, Fox is moving ahead with it’s television adaptation of the comic book legend as Gotham has cast it’s most prominent character yet. After sniffing around for the right guy, Gotham has cast Southland and The O.C. star Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon — otherwise known as Commissioner Gordon.
According to Variety, McKenzie will be playing a younger version of Jim Gordon than we saw Gary Oldman play in the Christopher Nolan films over the past decade.
"“Gotham” has found its Detective James Gordon.Fox and Warner Bros. TV have tapped Ben McKenzie to star in “Gotham,” casting the “Southland” alum as a young version of DC Comics’ famed Commissioner Gordon."
The version of Jim Gordon that Oldman played back in Batman Begins will likely be the type of character we see in Gotham. The prequel series will tell the story of who the famous comic book characters were in a world without Batman, as Bruce Wayne will be only 10-years old and McKenzie’s Jim Gordon will still be rising the ranks of the Gotham PD rather than already being Commissioner.
