Things are about to get trippy in Gotham as fans are going toy rev to deal with two different Alfred characters in the world now. While Jeremy Irons will be playing the film version of the character, Variety is reporting that the upcoming television series Gotham has cast Sean Pertwee as the small screen version of the character.
The announcement was made on Tuesday when the last casting surge came out of Fox regarding Gotham.
"Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, will be played by Sean Pertwee. A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Pennyworth has loyally served the Wayne family. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne — the boy who will eventually become Batman."
This is a much younger version of the character that we will be seeing, and it’s interesting to learn more about Alfred’s past. We haven’t ever really heard much about his past other than he worked for the Wayne family mostly all of his life.
It appears that Alfred will have more backstory in Gotham which is something that has been sorely lacking in all Batman adaptions.
