Gotham to create new original origin story for Bruce Wayne and Batman

This fall marks the premiere of a show lots of Batman fans are looking forward to seeing. It’s been a while since Batman was done right on television, as you’d have to go all the way back Batman the Animated Series in the early 90s to see the last great Batman TV series.

FOX is looking to change that though with Gotham, which will not only give us a look at the often overlooked pre-Batman days of Gotham but also re-write an origin story along the way. The network is confirming what we all believed from the start, as Fox chairman Kevin Reilly announced that Gotham will tell the arc of Bruce Wayne from 12-year old orphan to his birth as Batman in the final episodes of the series.

"“The show will arc a young Bruce Wayne from a child (around 12) into the final episode of the series, when he will put on the cape,”"

This goes against what we heard early on in the process that Batman nor Bruce Wayne would play major roles in the series. While the Caped Crusader won’t be appearing in the traditional sense, this will be more or a Batman prequel series than it will be a random spinoff about the early days of Gotham.
