Superior Spider-Man #28: Battle at Spider Island
By Avery Jordan
SPOILER ALERT — Spider Island has been destroyed. Every corner of the fortress has been torn to the ground and overrun by the Goblin Nation forces, and all anyone can really think is…well THAT escalated quickly.
The Green Goblin definitely has the upperhand in this war. Spider-Man’s entire Spider Patrol seems to have been wiped out, and Osborn is on an all out manhunt for web-slinger, as he narrowly escaped the island raid. The newest addition to the Goblin’s army, Monster (aka officer Carlie Cooper, ex-girlfriend of Peter Parker), tracked Spidey back to his Parker Industries warehouse at the pier and had a showdown with an costumeless Peter Parker; however, it appears that Monster, or Ms. Cooper rather, is much more in control of her goblin transformation than everyone expected and has offered to help him in this war against Osborn. Can Spidey trust her? Or is this really just a trap set up by the Green Goblin? And if Monster can be trusted, will she help change the tide of this war?
Elsewhere, it seems as though Mayor J. Jonah Jameson has decided to join forces with that of the newly formed company Alchemax to help stop…the Goblin? Alchemax has upgraded Mayor Jameson’s Spider Slayers and turned them into even deadlier killing machines. Jameson has promised that these new Goblin Slayers are a surefire solution to the Goblin gangs around the city, but Spidey fans have seen this before. Most likely, Jameson aims at destroying both Spider-Man as well as toppling the new Goblin underground empire.
In the meantime, Mary Jane has been gathering up Peter Parker’s relatives because Osborn has already sought them out in an effort to attack Spider-Man indirectly, but she missed one: Peter Parker (or rather Otto Octavius’s) current girlfriend Anna Maria Marconi. She has been abducted by Menace, claiming to be Peter’s friend under the guise of her former identity Lily Hollister. With all this chaos going on in what seems to be every corner of the Spider-Man universe, the web-head must find a way to take down the Green Goblin once and for all as well as save the ones he loves…but how can he do that if he can’t even save himself from what’s ahead?
