President Obama Says We’re Building Iron Man

facebooktwitterreddit

Yes, the President of the United States actually did use a White House event celebrating innovation to declare that the government is building Iron Man. Unfortunately, he also said the details are classified. Also it’s pretty likely he was not being serious.

While the U.S. may not have arc reactor technology in a secret warehouse or have Tony Stark on the payroll, CBR’s Robot 6 blog has an intriguing look at exoskeleton technology that is really in the works (the video with Obama’s quote is also in there). There’s even a sweet picture of Clark Gregg, a.k.a. Agent Coulson, trying on one of the suits.

Considering the explosion in drone warfare over the past few years, there’s no question that the fusion of man and machine is the future of warfare. If that future ends up looking like a certain Armored Avenger, so much the better, right?

Just one piece of advice for whichever top secret government lab is in charge: you probably don’t want to paint the suits to look exactly like Shellhead. Stark might hhave thought it was a good idea to “throw a little hot rod red in there,” but it’s hard to sneak up on enemies in bright gold and red.
