After hearing that a Venom movie is going to be developed, Sony has made a similar announcement about a Sinister Six movie which is set to feature the classic lineup of Spider-Man villains in their own films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has gathered what they’re calling brain trust of writers and directors to expand their Spider-Man universe as wide as they can.
Part of said expansion will lead to a Sinister Six film from Sony.
"Sony is making good on its promise to expand the Spider-Man universe in a big way, hiring superstar writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon andDrew Goddard to work on a large-scale story that will encompass several films … Goddard, meanwhile, will write, with an eye to direct, The Sinister Six, which will focus on Spider-Man’s villains."
What’s interesting about this is that Sony is going the opposite direction of Marvel and are exploring the villains in their franchise more so than the heroes. While Spider-Man is getting his moment in the sun, so too are the villains he fights everyday.
