We’re just months away from the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but already it seems that Sony is focused not he future of the franchise and maintaining stability at the box office. One way to make sure that you’re maximizing your profits is to saturate the marketplace with your product and this has led executives at Sony to agree that a new Spider-Man movie every year is the way to go.

According to Variety, Sony plans on starting with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this summer and spinning off into new films each year, inkling the upcoming Venom movie and the Sinister Six film as well.

"Meanwhile, SPE co-chairman Amy Pascal is spinning Spider-Man’s web ever larger, taking a page from Marvel Entertainment’s superhero movie playbook. “We are expanding the ‘Spider-Man’ universe into ‘The Sinister Six’ and ‘Venom,’ so that we have ‘Spider-Man’ movies every year,” Pascal says."

This is either great news or absolutely terrible news. While it could mean that we’re guaranteed a new Spidey movie every year, that doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed a quality Spider-Man movie every single year.

Still, the strategy has worked with Marvel and if anything it means that we will be digging in the deepest depths of the Spider-Man universe, which is hardly a bad thing.
