Spider-Man Andrew Garfield no-shows at the Oscars

The 2014 Oscars have come and gone and the winners are basking in the heavenly glow of an Academy award, or if you’re ‘Gravity’ several Academy awards. However one of the most talked about stand out moments of the show is something that didn’t happen. As most of you will know this years Oscars had a ‘hero’ theme and throughout the night several segments were dedicated to heroes from all walks of film life.

One of the bigger moments was a video package presented by Captain America himself Chris Evans which showed all of cinema’s comic-book, fantasy and sci-fi heroes in a pretty impressive montage, even if it did have far too much Man Of Steel for my liking. Whilst this segment was good it would have left a lot of people disappointed.

That’s because they would have been expecting an appearance from Spider-Man, with Andrew Garfield set to take part in the segment. Why would people have been expecting this you ask? Well, that’s because Oscar producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan told Entertainment Weekly  that they had a tear-jerking moment planned during their super hero tribute involving Spidey.

"“[Amazing Spider-Man star] Andrew Garfield is going to be part of what we hope is a very moving moment in the show, which will illustrate the theme of how movies have inspired,” Meron adds. “He is going to induct a new superhero into the fraternity of superheroes.”"

So there you have it, Spider-Man was supposed to show up and introduce a heart-warming moment where a mystery person will be inducted into the fraternity of super-heroes. But those that watched the Oscars will know that when the dust had settled and the show was over this much touted moment just didn’t happen.

No one knows why Garfield didn’t appear and the new superhero being crowned didn’t happen, my guess is that Garfield had to pull out so he was replaced by a previously un-billed Chris Evans in the last-minute. I reckon that one of the plethora of Spider-Man villains was up to no-good and everyone’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man had to sort it out!
