Paul Giamatti’s Rhino only in Amazing Spider-Man 2 for four minutes
By Daniel Wood
Spider-Man villain Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti to only appear in Amazing Spider-Man 2 for four minutes.
Those of you that are looking at Amazing Spider-Man 2 with trepidation following the super villain overload that ‘ruined’ Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 may have a point. Mark Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man sequel has a lot of villains on its books with Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Dane Dehaan’s Green Goblin and Paul Giamatti’s Rhino.
However it appears that Electro really will be the main villain with the others only having brief cameos, that certainly seems to be the case with Paul Giamatti’s character at least as he is only due to get four minutes of screen-time. This is bad news for fans of the popular marvel comics villain, or for fans of Paul Giamatti. However I’d imagine Webb and Sony have plans for the Rhino in future Spider-Man films as you don’t cast Paul Giamatti in a cameo, you just don’t!
And in case you’re thinking that this isn’t true unfortunately the news came from Amazing Spider-Man 2 director himself Mark Webb when he addressed fan concerns that the movie had too many bad guys during a keynote speech at South by Southwest. “‘We’re obviously familiar with the complaints people had. We’re very careful to make sure the stories intertwine. For Peter Parker, it’s very important that you create obstacles that are difficult to overcome.’
He goes on to say “Rhino is in it for four minutes” showing that he does seem to be acutely aware of the ‘too many crooks’ syndrome that Spider-Man 3 suffered from, and is instead using Rhino’s appearance in this film to set the character up for further movies.
Are you disappointed or happy that Rhino (Paul Giamatti) will only be in the film for four minutes?
