Spider-Woman not ‘thought about’ for Amazing Spider-Man films

Could we see Spider-Woman appearing in Sony’s Spider-Man films?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 film is creeping ever closer and the possibility of seeing as much of Spider-Man’s comic book world as possible is quite an exciting one. We’re already getting more Spidey for our buck than we’ve ever gotten before as well as three popular comic-book villains in Electro, Rhino and Green Goblin.

On top of that there are rumours that Felicity Jones will be playing Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat in the film, as well as confirmation that Alistair Smythe will be appearing, played by B.J. Novak. There have even been hints of seeing Hydro-Man and Vulture, as well as J.Jonah. Jameson.

But one character that hasn’t been thrown around that much is Spider-Woman. With Sony wanting to expand the Marvel universe and release one Spider-Man film a year could it be Marvel and not DC with Wonder Woman that break the gender barrier of superhero films and allow Spider-Woman to helm her own movie?

Spider-Woman made her debut in 1977 followed by a 50-issue self-titled series that ran from 1978 to 1983. The most recent fourth volume of Spider-Woman was published from November 2099 through May 2010. Which is a whopping four years ago (pull your finger out Marvel!)

So, is there any chance that Spider-Woman could appear in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man films, or even get her own spin-off films? Well, Marc Webb was asked about the female spidey at a recent press event and the answer will be disappointing for some “That hasn’t been on my mind, but it’s an interesting idea.”

Of course all of this entirely depends on who actually owns the rights to the character of Jessica Drew as well. No-one’s really quite sure but most people seem to think that it’s Marvel and not Sony that own the rights to Spider-Mans female counterpart.

So guys, do you want to see Spider-Woman either in the Amazing Spider-Man films or in her own movie?
