Update: Batman Arkham Knight, all the Latest News!
It seems that everywhere you look today there’s a new article up about Batman Arkham Knight, so I thought I would just sorta summarize the new information that each article had to offer and give you my opinion on the whole matter. Gamespot.com reporter Carolyn Petit has written about how Rocksteady is making the Batmobile work,
"The batmobile is more than just a way to get from point A to point B. During the demo, the car appeared to live up to the fantasy–if you’ve ever daydreamed about the things you think that vehicle should be able to do, there’s a good chance that the batmobile of Arkham Knight will do them. As you grapple and glide your way around the city, you can summon the batmobile, and it will stylishly swerve down the streets below to meet up with you. You can dive right into the vehicle’s cockpit and switch seamlessly from gliding to driving, or reverse the process using the batmobile’s ejector seat, which instantly launches you to gliding altitude. And it appears to handle like a dream. While speeding along a subterranean obstacle course the Riddler had devised for the batmobile, Rocksteady’s Gaz Deaves drove along the wall for a moment, and in one cylindrical tunnel, he rotated all the way around the passage’s surface, clinging to the ceiling briefly before circling back down to the ground."

You can read all of Carolyn’s Gamespot article here. The Batmobile sounds seriously awesome I can’t wait to drive it! I don’t know about my Caped Crusades readers but I am psyched that the Riddler challenges will now include Batmobile challenges, I spend hours and hours obsessing over completing all the Riddler trophies and challenges. I’m actually still working on the Enigma Datapacks in my recent run-through of Arkham Origins (which I replayed because Cold, Cold Heart isn’t far off). The Batmobile is the only car I ever really day-dreamed about driving when I was growing up, and though I don’t know how to drive, if you told me I could drive the Batmobile I’d run out and get my license right now!
Michael McWhertor over at Polygon.com also reported on the Batmoble, in his article ‘Arkham Knight gives Batman an all-new foe, a bigger Gotham. and a “Wrecking-ball of a ride”‘ and he quoted Rocksteady brand marketing producer Dax Ginn saying:
"“We wanted the Batmobile to feel like this wrecking ball as you’re driving through the city.”"
And that is exactly what the Batmobile will feel like judging from what Mitch Dyer and Greg Miller are saying in their video discussion of the Arkham Knight demo at the recent Game Developers Conference. Click the links in the article titles to read the full articles. With new-gen hardware we will get to experience seemless transitions between gliding and driving around the city of Gotham. We can be gliding through the city and call the Batmobile to us and drop right into the driver’s seat through the roof, or be driving along and eject ourselves out of the Batmobile and right into gliding. The new-gen hardware also makes for better transitions in and out of cut-scenes and game play, and allows for a much bigger, more detailed Gotham to explore.
Most everyone is writing about the Batmobile in Arkham Knight, and they are also talking Arkham Knight himself. Rocksteady is still insisting that the Arkham Knight is a brand new character they have developed with the creative team over at DC comics. While I initially hoped that Arkham Knight was someone like Hush or Jason Todd, I am now excited to see this new character, and get to know him (or her, lets not forget that the Phantasm turned out to be a woman). It’s been awhile since a new character has been introduced to the Batman universe, and I would like to see Arkham Knight really take off. I’m also hoping that we will still see Hush and even Azrael have at least a small role to play in Batman: Arkham Knight.
Playstation gives us a short video interview with Dax Ginn who explains that Batman: Arkham Knight is meant to allow players to truly feel as if they are Batman, the complete package. See the video below:
Sefton Hill ( of Rocksteady studios), wrote an article on Playstation blog to accompany the video, and he had this to say about the game:
"I’ve always said that working on a Batman game is a huge privilege for us. Even though we have been working on Batman for over seven years, we’ve never lost sight of the fact that we are the current custodians of a very special universe.So it was with great excitement, and not a small amount of trepidation, that we decided to add the fully playable Batmobile into the Arkhamverse, knowing that it would disrupt all of our existing systems and bring with it a huge amount of pressure to deliver on expectations."

It’s a lot of information and a lot to take in but all in all very exciting! Rocksteady seems to be gearing up to give us the best Batman video game experience ever, something to outshine their own great accomplishments in the past, and I know everyone is as excited as I am to see them deliver!
