Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark

I know what you’re thinking I’ve written ‘The Musical’ twice. I also know what you’re thinking ‘we all know there’s a Spider-Man musical, it’s called Turn Off The Dark and it recently closed in Broadway’. But what if I told you the title is deliberate and I know about ‘Turn Off The Dark’. So what on earth am I talking about?

Well, let me introduce you to the Colonel Mustard Theatre Group who recently caught my attention with their shambolic yet heart-warming and genius rendition of Jurassic Park: The Musical. If you haven’t seen the performance which went viral online and had me in stitches of laughter. You can check out the first part below I guarantee it’s brilliant.

This theatre group started as a group of college students having a laugh putting on plays in the attic of a Victorian house in downtown Lincoln. Since then they’ve put on performances of Jurassic Park: The Musical, X-Files the Musical and Dr. Quinn the Musical.

Now the group that has seen their performances escalate over the years with 1000 people turning out and they’ve become a legitimate theatre group thanks to Kickstarter campaigns. As Omaha.Com says The group’s shows tow a fine line between irony and affection and they’re now turning their attentions toward Spider-Man

"“(‘Spider-Man’) is going to be sprawling and interactive, so the audience can expect strange and wonderful things,” said Joanna Clay, a Colonel Mustard producer. “It’s going to be ‘Mustardy’ in the way it’s carried to fruition.”There’s a lot going on with “Spider-Man: The Musical: The Musical.” In addition to Bono, giant spiders and the musical within a musical structure, expect allusions to “The Producers” and “Phantom of the Opera,” as well as a critique of the current state of mainstream theatre. A meta musical parody of the arts. With spiders."

Personally this is the most exciting news I’ve heard all year. I loved the Jurassic Park show and can’t wait to see the group take on Spider-Mans torrid Musical in a musical within a musical setting in the Colonel Mustard way. If Amazing Spider-Man 2 bombs at least I have this to fall back on!
