Dan Slott Revisits Spider-Man’s First 60 Days In Learning To Crawl
By Nick Tylwalk
Peter Parker is going to be back on the job as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man before the end of the month, and he’ll be swinging into a wide open future. But Marvel and writer Dan Slott think there’s still more to tell about the time when he was just getting accustomed to life as a super hero, which is why they’ve come up with “Learning to Crawl,” a five-issue story starting this May in Amazing Spider-Man #1.1.
This isn’t a rehash of Spidey’s origin, since that’s a tale most comics fans know by heart at this point. Instead, “Learning to Crawl” is a new story set during Parker’s first 60 days as the wall-crawler, a formative time that parallels the first appearances of the character in the early 1960s (in real life, that is). As an added bonus, the story will reverberate into our present.
“We all love a good ‘Year One’ story,” Senior Editor Nick Lowe said in a press release. “But this is so much MORE! Not only does this address Spider-Man’s past, but it sets up a new villain that will be a huge part of Dan Slott’s Amazing Spider-Man plans moving forward.”
Slott is joined by Eisner Award-winner Ramon Perez on art, and the duo even managed to craft an eight-page lead-in that will appear in Amazing Spider-Man #1 at the end of April.
“It’s one thing to know that with great power comes great responsibility, but what do you do with it?” Slott said to Marvel.com.
You can see a little of what Parker will do with his power in the preview pages below. “Learning to Crawl” begins in earnest when Amazing Spider-Man #1.1 goes on sale May 7.
