Amazing Spider-Man opens with impressive $47 million box office takings
With Sony’s plan to release a new Spider-Man universe film every year they would have had their eyes on the Amazing Spider-Man 2 hoping that the box office takings mean that there’s actually a demand to see a film once every year featuring the Web-Slinger. However it’s good news for the ‘Venom’ and ‘Sinister Six’ spin-offs and Spider-Man 3 and 4 as the early box office signs for Marc Webb’s second Spider-Man film look incredibly promising.
In the 14 areas that the film has been released in, including the UK, the total box office takings are 47 million including $2.3m in 50 IMAX screens alone. Now, that’s a pretty decent start considering the film won’t be hitting the US for quite some time. According to Forbes Spider-Man 2 has outperformed ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ in several territories and made $15 million in the UK and Ireland alone.
Sony will be hoping that Amazing Spider-Man 2 goes on to perform well when it opens in Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, and 21 more markets next week, having already opened in the UK, Ireland, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and Austria. It’ll finally air in America on the 2nd of May.
Fingers crossed the film continues to do well!
