Could Vulture be a woman in Sinister Six films?

Obviously female super villains and superheroes are fairly scarce in the Marvel universe, there’s no denying that it’s a male dominated world. However when Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach was asked about the possibility of gender swapping a character by moviepilot.com (via comicbookmovie.com) I don’t think anyone would’ve expected the answer to be “It’s certainly possible,” or “It’s certainly a good idea”.

He then added that it “Could be very cool,” he said. “I’m not going to commit to anything other than to say, ‘a really good idea.’ And it could certainly happen. So, we’ll see.” I mean if Peter Jackson can shoehorn in a completely made up female elven character into the Hobbit trilogy then there’s no reason at all why Avi Arad and Tolmach can’t make one of the Sinister Six a woman!

So, who would be female? We’ve already seen that Lizard, Electro, Rhino and Green Goblin are male so it won’t be any of them, unless something truly odd happens. Moving on from that we also saw Doctor Octopus’ arms and Vultures wing harness so it would appear they’re being teased for future films, so it could be one of those two.

Whilst gender swapping Spider-Man’s second most iconic villain with Doctor Octopus might be a stretch too far, it’s possible that Vulture could become the first gender-swapped super-villain on film and fly as a female. This would diversify the Sinister Six line-up (if Vulture is indeed in it) which is never a bad thing!

But what do people think of a female Vulture, or of any Spider-Man character changing genders from comic book to film. For example who would anyone feel if J Jonah Jameson turned out to be a woman? (which is also possible). And for those of you thinking that surely they wouldn’t do anything like that, Avi Arad has already said that nothing is sacred when it comes to the Sinister Six line-up so anything could happen!
