Amazing Spider-Man 2 not cancelled in Philippines
Earlier an article ran on sowhatsnews.com stating that all screenings of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 film in the Philippines has been cancelled in light of recent comments from Filipino talk-shot host Kris Aquino and fears that the film just won’t do that well at the Filipino Box Office.
Apparently Columbia Pictures spokesperson Jon Arbuckle released the following statement “We have decided to not show the movie in the Philippines due to fears that it would not be up-to-par with Filipino’s standards in film quality.” However urbanlegends.about.com has confirmed that the article is a hoax and that Jon Arbuckle isn’t a real person, (sorry all real Jon Arbuckle’s out there) but in fact the character from the Garfield comic.
It turns out that the article is a satirical response to Filipino talk show host Kris Aquino’s bragging comments to Andrew Garfield that her son, Bimby, beat the first Amazing Spider-Man film in terms of earnings. A point seemingly confirmed by fictional Arbuckle’s next fictional comments, ““After the interview, Garfield became so worried that if a locally produced movie could beat an international blockbuster, what are the chances that the sequel would fare better.”
Apparently Garfield then immediately contacted Marc Webb and asked to add in as much product placement as possible to make the film more like My Little Bossings, which is the film that Aquino’s son, Bimby, starred in. My Little Bossings remains the highest grossing movie in Filipino history, but Aquino’s bragging met criticism online. And that’s ultimately the source of this fake news story.
So don’t worry Philippines, Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming!
