Edgar Wright Is Off Ant-Man
By Nick Tylwalk
Lately, news about anything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is almost always good. But this isn’t: director Edgar Wright is no longer doing Ant-Man, as announced by Marvel on Friday.
The troubling part is that the statement announcing Wright’s departure cited “differences in their visions of the film” as the impetus behind the breakup between the director and Marvel. The sensibility he brought to movies like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz was arguably the quality that fans were most anticipating about his take on Ant-Man, and considering that he also co-wrote the screenplay, it’s fair to wonder what will remain of his original vision.
Nevertheless, the show must go on. Ant-Man is still scheduled to release on July 17, 2015, and we’ll have to wait and see who Marvel taps to replace Wright.
