Jason Momoa Will Be Aquaman In Dawn Of Justice

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice rumors have certainly heated up this week.  First, we saw some giveaways in Michigan (LexCorp building and Superman statue).  Next, we had some credible rumors that DC and Warner Brothers plan to release seven DC movies within a time span of two years starting in May of 2016.  Today, courtesy of HitFix we can confirm that Jason Momoa will be the King of the Seven Seas himself — Aquaman.

The casting of Momoa in Dawn of Justice is nothing new and initial rumors speculated that he could be Aquaman.  Momoa, in the past, had strongly denied this, but it seems that it’s a done deal now.  Filming for his cameo will begin soon as Zack Snyder has already finished the final designs for the character.  Fans may be wondering how Aquaman can even be smoothly inserted into Dawn of Justice.  According to Hitfix, this will be the setup:

"Someone else who’s not particularly happy about what happened in that film is Aquaman.  I’m not sure if that’s the actual name they’ll use or not, but what we’re hearing is that he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean.  He will not have a major role in the film, but he will make an appearance, and it definitely sets him up to return once Snyder gets to Justice League."

This plot is very believable since one of the rumored reasons for Lex Luthor’s rising influence is that he makes Superman look like the enemy due to Superman’s destruction of Metropolis in his epic battle with General Zod.  Tying in the aftermath of a disturbed Indian Ocean will help carry a theme that deals with the consequences of having super-powered beings on Earth.

Though the story behind Aquaman’s cameo may calm some fan-criticism, there’s still a debate as to whether or not Momoa has the look of Aquaman.  Many have pointed out that Aquaman is blonde-haired and blue-eyed, and Momoa would’ve been better suited as The Main Man — Lobo.  Then again, we shouldn’t be too shocked as the on-going pattern of casting for Dawn of Justice has been surprise after surprise — Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman.

Aquaman will not be a far stretch for Momoa since he has already played somewhat of an aquatic hero in the TV series Baywatch Hawaii (1999 – 2001) as Jason Ioane, a lifeguard.  Momoa’s other famous roles have been Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis (2005 – 2009), Conan in Conan the Barbarian (2011), and Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones (2011 – 2012).

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is slated for a worldwide release date of May 6, 2016.
