No, none of the companies who make super hero action figures have allowed Bam Smack Pow to go behind the scenes for a tour of the production process or anything. Someday, maybe!
Instead, we’ve got the next best thing, which is this awesome step-by-step infogram from the people at DC Collectibles. It goes into pretty nice detail on the journey that an action figure takes from design to retail. Specifically, it uses the Batman by Greg Capullo figure as an example, which is a pretty great one if you haven’t acquired it or seen it in person yet. Behold, the mystery of super hero action figures partially resolved!
Not all of them look as intimidating as Capullo’s Batman, of course, but the idea should be pretty much the same no matter which character is being immortalized in plastic. DC, in particular, does an excellent job making individual artists’ renditions of super heroes and villains come across in their action figures.
