Kevin Smith On Dawn of Justice Batsuit Details
By Steve Lam
Our favorite fanboy, Kevin Smith, has just revealed some more details on the new Batsuit for Ben Affleck’s Batman. Via his new podcast, Fat Man on Batman (Yes, you read that correctly.), Smith, accompanied by comic book artist Neal Adams, went into some spoilers about the Dark Knight’s outfit in Dawn of Justice. The new suit is supposed to look like Frank Miller’s statue.
If you forgot what Ben Affleck looked like in the black and white picture released by Zack Snyder, here it is again for a comparison:
Well, sans the total beat-down of The Joker, the two costumes are almost identical — down to the shorter ears on the cowl and the stouter chest insignia. Talking more about the suit, Smith says that Batman will be wearing a cloth suit versus body armor. In Smith’s own flowery language:
"I tell you, that’s what they’re doing in this new Batman movie. It’s him in material. None of this body armor s*** … You have not seen this costume in film before. Because every other movie has done this Matrixy black armor thing."
Well, we may not have seen a cloth costume since 1989’s Batman, but we certainly saw one in 1966’s Batman starring Adam West as the Caped Crusader. Then again, I’m sure Smith was well aware of the 60s version and was definitely not using that as a serious gauge.
Being a completely cloth suit is still quite hard to believe. I’m speculating that it will be some type of reinforced cloth akin to Kevlar. Seriously, Batman is one of the smartest people on Earth. I don’t care what sort of training he has, he’s going to take some precautions. Bruce Wayne is driven, not bats*** crazy.
