Catwoman Heading Up A Crime Family In October
By Nick Tylwalk
Maybe we’ll have to start calling Selina Kyle the Catfather … er, Catmother?
When Catwoman gets its new creative team in October, Kyle will find herself as the head of a family business, one that just happens to be in the lucrative field of organized crime. Comics newcomer Genevieve Valentine and artist Garry Brown (with covers by Jae Lee) will handle this new twist in Catwoman’s career, one that Valentine told io9 would pit Kyle against that trickiest of foes: her own nature:
"She decides to accept the position, both because she sees a chance to restore a ruined Gotham and because, deep down, Selina’s always played power games against herself. In this arc, she’ll be coming face to face with what she’s willing to do to keep her power, on a scale that could shake the whole city."
It’ll be interesting to see exactly what this means for Catwoman’s relationship with a certain Dark Knight, but a flash forward scene in one of Scott Snyder’s issues of Batman already suggested that Kyle would be in a very different position in the power structure of Gotham City a few months from now, and this development certainly makes sense in that context.
Catwoman #35, where Kyle will set off in her new direction, is scheduled to go on sale on October 22.
