New Book Takes Readers Through 75 Years Of Marvel History
By Nick Tylwalk
It’s going to take one massive book to get the entire history of Marvel between two covers. Fortunately, that’s exactly what Marvel and Taschen have planned for this fall.
Entitled 75 Years of Marvel: From the Golden Age to the Silver Screen, the 700-plus page book is aiming to do precisely what its title suggests, starting with the earliest days of the Marvel Bullpen, when Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita Sr. and other legendary creators invented so many iconic characters. Thanks to more than 2,000 images of vintage comic books, original art and behind-the-scenes still shots, readers will be able to learn exactly what the company went through to become the multi-media powerhouse it is in the 21st Century. There’s even a four-foot, accordion-fold timeline that Marvel says is “suitable for framing.”
Writer Roy Thomas knows more than a little about the subject matter, as his comic book writing career dates back to 1965 and he served as both a Marvel editor and editor-in-chief at various times. He’s joined by Taschen art director and editor Josh Baker, who’s already worked on a similar project for DC.
75 Years of Marvel: From the Golden Age to the Silver Screen is all set to make your coffee table (people still do coffee table books, right?) a little cooler when it goes on sale this fall at a suggested price of $200.
