Fantastic Four Reboot To Feature Original Story
By Nick Tylwalk
Can you play the Invisible Woman on the big screen without ever having read any Fantastic Four comics?
You can if the director tells you not to bother. ComicBookMovie used the power of Google Translate to dig into an interview that Kate Mara, who will play Sue Storm in the upcoming reboot, gave to Esquire Mexico, where she revealed the reason Josh Trank told her she didn’t need to know the source material:
"I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn’t necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn’t do it because the plot won’t be based on any history of anything already published."
Obviously, that means Fantastic Four is going to be based on an original story devised specifically for the film. That’s fine, as the franchise definitely needed to be freshened up.
But really, there’s nothing in the entire 50-plus year publication history of Marvel’s first super hero team that could give Mara any insight into what makes Sue Storm tick? That takes some gigantic confidence on the part of Trank and the rest of the people making the movie, maybe even bordering on arrogance.
We’ll see if those feelings are warranted when Fantastic Four comes out on June 19, 2015.
