The Guardians Of The Galaxy Legos Are Pretty Sweet

Perhaps this goes without saying, but my son just turned six this past weekend, and as a big fan of Legos, he was allowed to pick any set he wanted that was $40 or less at the closest Lego Store. He deliberated about it for quite a while before settling on one of the new Guardians of the Galaxy sets, which aren’t even for sale on the online Lego store yet.

Specifically, he picked out set 76020, the Knowhere Escape Mission, which naturally was right up against his upper price limit. It has 433 pieces and comes with Rocket Raccoon, Nebula and The Sakaaran minifigures.

Notice I didn’t say anything about Groot, because there’s nothing “mini” about him. As you can see in the not so great pic below (because I’m a writer and not a photographer) or the better one above, Groot is like a full-fledged action figure once you put him together, complete with multiple points of articulation in the arms and legs and standing a little more than three minifigures high. My son discovered to his joy that Rocket perches easily on his shoulder.

The rest of the set is a small base with catapult and trap door features, plus a cannon or missile launcher of some sort for the Sakaaran. Rocket gets a little ship that has grabber arms in front. Nebula comes with dual swords, because that’s all she needs to start trouble.

A larger set comes with the Milano and five minifigures, including Star-Lord, Drax and Ronan. Star-Lord is also available in the smallest of the first wave of sets along with the Sakaaran and a Nova Officer and small ships for both of them. And for the completest, there’s an exclusive Rocket’s Warbird at Comic-Con, though that requires actually being in San Diego this week. My guess is they’ll also want you to have a ticket to SDCC too, but I could be wrong.

In any case, they’re all pretty cool, and a perfect way to get fans in your household who might be too young to see the movie next week to get in on the fun in their own way.
