Batman Day: Our Favorite Fan Videos!
By Skip Harvey
It’s National Batman Day! To celebrate we’re bringing you some of our favorite Batman moments. Specifically, I’m bringing you some of my favorite fan-made Batman adventures!
First up, Batman: Dead End.
"Batman (Clark Bartram) corners an escaped Joker (Andrew Koenig), only to have the villain suddenly dragged off by an Alien. The Alien is, in turn, killed by a Predator, which Batman fights and defeats. Other Predators then appear just as more Aliens emerge from the darkness behind Batman. The film ends abruptly with Batman caught in between the two alien and monster species."
"Clark Bartram as Bruce Wayne/BatmanAndrew Koenig as The JokerKurt Carley as the PredatorJake McKinnon as the AlienPatrick Oronet, Patrick Magee and Kurt Carley as other Predators"
"The film was made for a reported $30,000 and filmed in parts of North Hollywood, California, as a stand-in for Gotham City.[1]Collora filmed a similar project, 2004’s World’s Finest, with much of the same cast and crew."
"Film director and comic book writer Kevin Smith called it “possibly the truest, best Batman movie ever made”, and comic book artist Alex Ross praised it as “Batman the way I’ve always wanted to see him”. Collora has stated in interviews that the film was made as a demonstration reel to attract attention to his directing skills, and as such, succeeded in its goal.Fan Films Quarterly listed Batman: Dead End as one of the 10 most pivotal moments in fan film history in its Summer 2006 issue."
Next: Robin’s Big Date.
"Robin is waiting for a big date in a restaurant. Unfortunately, Batman (who Robin desperately tries to convince not to show up, as he’ll ruin everything) shows up. Batman appoints himself as the wingman of the date to help the poor Boy Wonder “score”. Kate, his date, arrives at the restaurant shortly after Batman, and the Dark Knight becomes incredibly obnoxious toward her, dominating the conversation and flirting. He even tells her about when Robin was captured by the Penguin. When she goes to the restroom, Robin angrily confronts Batman, and gets in an embarrassing situation when Kate comes back (Batman quickly leaves to get drinks). Just when Robin becomes less awkward around her, Batman comes back, and he and Robin discuss Batman’s willingness to let Catwoman escape from capture. However, Kate’s boyfriend, Tony, arrives, and acts like a jerk towards Batman and Robin. Kate and Tony leave and the stunned Dynamic Duo decides to go to Aquaman‘s house to play his GameCube."
"Sam Rockwell as BatmanJustin Long as RobinCallie Thorne as KateJosh Hamilton as Tony"
Next up: World’s Finest.
"World’s Finest is a fan film directed by Sandy Collora. It works as a trailer to a movie that does not exist: the long-awaited cinematic team-up of Superman and Batman. While Superman and Batman have appeared together often in comic books and in animation(notably Super Friends), this fan film is the only time that the characters have been on the screen at the same time in live action. The title refers to a former famous comic series, featuring Batman and Superman working together in every issue. The trailer features common themes from the comics, such as Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent meeting each other and feuding overLois Lane‘s affection. In addition, the trailer features the villains Lex Luthor and Two-Face.The trailer used Los Angeles, California, to portray the city of Metropolis. As an homage to the 1952 TV series Adventures of Superman, the Los Angeles City Hall was filmed as the Daily Planet building."
"Michael O’Hearn as Clark Kent/SupermanClark Bartram as Bruce Wayne/Batman (reprising his role from Collora’s other fan film, Batman: Dead End)Kurt Carley as Lex LuthorNina Kaczorowski as Lois LaneMichael Antonik as Two-FaceAndrew Decker as Jimmy OlsenJoseph Collora as Perry White"
Here’s Grayson!
"Grayson is a 2004 fan film made by John Fiorella featuring DC Comics character Dick Grayson along with several other DC Universe characters. Since it is a fan film, it was not allowed to be sold at a profit and was thus distributed for free on the internet. The film is a mock trailer for a Grayson movie; however, no such movie exists. Currently, there are also no plans for a full-length feature film, because the filmmakers have no possibility to produce such a film without the support of Warner Bros. The original screenplay for a full-length picture is available for download at the Untamed Cinema official website."
"John Fiorella as Dick Grayson/RobinBrian C. Bethel as The JokerPaul Hasenyager as Clark Kent/SupermanAnthony Heartley as Chief O’HaraKate Clarke as Wonder WomanKimberly Page as Selina Kyle/CatwomanGloria Payne as Barbara Grayson/BatgirlMark Brodkin as Commissioner Gordon"
Here’s Batman: Death Wish.
"Batman: Death Wish is a 2012 fan film directed by Matthew Hiscox, based on the Batman franchise. Unlike other Batman fan films that use the more mature, contemporary settings of later comic books, this fan film is styled after the Joel Schumacher filmsBatman Forever and Batman & Robin, as well as Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures and the No Man’s Land comics storyline."
"Batman, Robin and Nightwing investigate a string of incidents where a mysterious assailant has been taking down numerous crime organizations all over Gotham City. In their findings, they discover that while the thugs were taken down and no cash was stolen in the crime scenes, The Riddler and The Scarecrow have been lethally drugged with a botanical neurotoxin found only in the Far East. Moreover, blood splatters in the crime scenes indicate that the assailant was reckless, not caring about sustaining gunshot wounds during the fights while drugging the villains. Batman concludes that the assailant is Batgirl, who is being manipulated byPoison Ivy; the gunshot wounds she sustained were her failed attempts at breaking the spell. Batman and Robin confront Poison Ivy, who attempts to kill Batman with a lethal dose of the neurotoxin. An injured Batgirl, however, briefly breaks Poison Ivy’s spell on her to block the shot as the villainess makes her escape and Nightwing rushes to the scene with the antidote.“Batman” as Bruce Wayne/Batman (uncredited role)Christopher L.
