Deadpool Test Footage Released
By Steve Lam
UPDATE: Blur Studios has officially released the hi-res version of the test footage. The previous footage has been replaced for a better viewing experience.
During Comic Con Las Vegas last year, Rob Liefeld mentioned director Tim Miller shooting test footage for a Deadpool movie. Today, SuperHeroHype has discovered the footage released to YouTube. Though it doesn’t seem to be an official release (based on the quality of the capture and the fact that someone recorded the screen with a camera), fans have, so far, viewed it over seventeen thousand times within hours. So, without further ado, and hopefully it doesn’t get taken down too soon, here’s the much talked about footage:
WARNING: There may be strong language in the clip. Viewer discretion is advised.
As you can see, much of Deadpool seems to be CGI and the voice is unmistakably Ryan Reynolds, who played a pre-transformed Deadpool, aka Wade Wilson, in 2009’s
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
. The footage definitely portrays Deadpool just like the comic books: gratuitous violence, morbid humor, and his trademark of breaking the fourth wall.
Along with great fan demand for a Deadpool film, Reynolds has also expressed great interest in reprising his role. But studios have never officially moved forward with development on a project for the Merc with a Mouth. A script has already been written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, both of Zombieland fame, with Tim Miller still attached to direct. In this day and age of social media, do fans need to create a petition page to get the ball rolling?
