Andrew Lloyd Webber suing Spider-Man musical producer
By Daniel Wood
The world of musicals are a weird and wonderful thing which is presumably why musical afficionado Andrew Lloyed Webber is suing Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark producer Michael Cohl. Now, you might be wondering what on earth Webber has to sue Cohl about, and whether Cohl has any money left following all of the injuries and controversies surrounding Turn Off the Dark, and the multiple law-suits that followed.
But such is the nature of musicals and producing, it turns out that Cohl has his fingers in many pies. As well as the planned Rio stage show, and the bringing to theatrical life of Alvin and the Chipmunks Michael Cohl was also responsible for a North American tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. However Cohl cancelled the tour due to poor ticket sales, leading to Andrew Lloyd Webber and his Really Useful Group suing.
Webber announded through a UK spokesperson the following “RUG “is taking legal action against Michael Cohl’s Options Clause Entertainment following his cancellation of the 2014 North American Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar. The Really Useful Group (RUG) has no option but to proceed with legal action to recover its costs associated with the project and in turn, satisfy outstanding payments to suppliers and contractors.”
Still, when you’re behind Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark what’s another law-suit going to do? Getting sued is probably like water off a duck’s back by now.
