The Sad Fates Of Marvel Super Heroes’ Children
By Nick Tylwalk
Katie Summers, daughter of Havok and the Wasp
Traumatic events: Born in a future that ceased to exist, used as a bargaining chip by Kang
Status: Take your pick – deceased, never existed, or the prisoner of Kang
It’s going to be really hard to explain this one, but I’ll do my best. In a possible future, all mutants end up on their own planet while the Earth is destroyed by Celestials. Havok and Wasp marry and have a daughter. So far, not so bad, except for the whole Earth getting destroyed thing.
The Avengers who survive end up projecting their mental essences back into their past bodies, Days of Future Past-style, in order to prevent that future from coming to pass, but only after Havok seeks assurances that Katie will be okay. Again, comics, so it’s actually possible to have a girl whose whole timeline is going to be erased still be protected from that.
Alas, Kang knows this too, and either uses the knowledge of her continued existence or pulls off one heck of a bluff to keep Havok from attacking him. It doesn’t work, and Alex has to tell Jan using his newly disfigured face that they have no daughter, though what really happened to her only Kang knows.
It’s possibly the most depressing fate of all of the super heroes’ children, but don’t worry — I’m sure someone will think of a worse one eventually!
