David Cubitt To Play Mark Shaw, Possibly Manhunter, On Arrow

The reason the word “possibly” is in the post title is that there’s no guarantee that Mark Shaw actually ends up as Manhunter in Arrow — and definitely not with his comic book origin, which involves the Guardians of Oa, androids, and other stuff that would be out of place on the show. But The Hollywood Reporter says that David Cubitt will play Shaw in Season 3, so there’s at least the possibility that he ends up as Manhunter at some point (or even more awesome, the Privateer).

Comic Book Resources reminds us all of the precedent set by Kate Spencer on Arrow, as she was killed off before she could take on the role of Manhunter as she eventually did in comics. Perhaps it’s just something the producers like to do, and we’ll also see recurring characters named Paul Kirk and Chase Lawler at some point.

In any case, it appears this Shaw will be an A.R.G.U.S. agent with ties to John Diggle.  Considering the ongoing evolution in the relationship between that organization and Team Arrow, their interactions could be friendly or adversarial.

We’ll see how Cubitt and the other new additions all figure into the larger picture when Arrow returns for new episodes on The CW on Wednesday, October 8.
