First Issue Of Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman Out Now
By Nick Tylwalk
Let’s be honest: there are plenty of times when digital-first comics from the Big Two publishers aren’t that big a deal. Maybe they deal with lesser characters or they don’t have top established talent on board.
DC is doing pretty much the exact opposite with Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman, a new digital series telling standalone, non-continuity stories about everyone’s favorite Amazon warrior. The first issue is out today, and it goes big right off the bat with the first installment of a two-part story by writer Gail Simone and artist Ethan Van Sciver — who just happens to be doing his first ever work on a Wonder Woman solo tale.
Speaking of bats, that makes for a good segue into the high concept of the first digital issue, which is a crisis in Gotham City. With Batman out of commission, Oracle is forced to call for help, and she decides Diana is the only person for the job. It looks like she’ll be facing off against a whole bunch of Batman’s most famous foes, which should be fun.
The DC Fan Blog has an extensive interview with the two creators on how the project came together. Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman is available through the DC Comics Digital Store, and it will be followed by part two next week on August 20 — the same day the entire story will ship in print form.
