Amazing little boy wants to be ‘Black Spider-Man’
By Daniel Wood
The introduction of Miles Morales as Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe was a ground-breaking one. Marvel made a bold move when they changed one of their more beloved characters from a white fairly middle class character like Peter Parker to a black hispanic character like Miles Morales. The idea being to better represent what are considered minority cultures, which is something comic book superheroes had been sorely lacking in.
And if you ever wanted more proof that this was a good idea and is doing wonders for breaking down racial barriers and prejudices, here’s a picture of a young white boy saying that he wants to be Black Spider-Man.
Before anyone says anything, yes I am aware that he could well and truly be referring to Peter Parker in the black symbiote thus defeating the nice uplifting anti-racism message that I was going for. Yes, it’s possible that this kid thinks the black suit is simply cooler than the red and blue one, but I prefer to think that he loves Miles Morales and that racial barriers are being knocked down. Deal with it!
