Star-Lord’s Awesome Mix Finally Dethroned By Taylor Swift

Well, it was a good run for Awesome Mix, Vol. 1, one of the final gifts that a pre-Star-Lord Peter Quill received from his dying mom.

(Note: I’m not putting spoiler warnings in here any more. Guardians of the Galaxy has been out for almost three weeks!)

The mix sold like hotcakes for several weeks, bringing some classic and not-quite-classic songs back into the spotlight. But even the Awesome Mix was no match for the power of a new album from Taylor Swift, whose 1989 has set up shop atop the iTunes album chart.

And while we all consider how likely Quill would be to try his pelvic sorcery on Ms. Swift and therefore risk becoming the subject of a song on her next album, we have to say that second place isn’t too bad. Under duress, we’d also have to admit that “Shake it Off” is a really catchy song.

Just a thought here, Marvel: maybe it’s soon time to reveal the playlist for Awesome Mix, Vol. 2 and reclaim the top spot?
