Six Flags Shows Off New Batman, Justice League Rides For 2015
By Nick Tylwalk
When you have the rights to build amusement park rides based on DC super heroes, you might as well keep making use of it. Six Flags does, and it is, announcing two new attractions for its parks for the 2015 season.
First up is Batman: The Ride, which is slated for Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. That park already has a Superman: Krypton Coaster, but the new Batman coaster takes things to the next level.
(As an aside, I was always a big fan of the old school Batman: The Ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, which was the world’s first ever inverted coaster. It also just occurred to me that it’s based on the 1989 Batman movie. Time flies!)
Six Flags is billing Batman: The Ride as a “4D Free Fly” coaster, which seems impossible unless it also transports you through time. The ride vehicles are designed so that passengers can be looking at each other on the lift hill, which goes straight up, and then the seats flip as riders go through the hills and drops, which include two drops of over 90 degrees. That sensation is supposed to simulate free-falling, which is another way of saying it brings my greatest fear to life.
Anyway, this is a difficult ride to describe, so watching the ride video is better.
Meanwhile, Six Flags St. Louis will get Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, a dark ride with interactive elements that allows guests to come to the aid of Superman, Batman and Cyborg as they try to save the captured Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Supergirl (yep, Aquaman gets the shaft!) The vehicles rotate as riders shoot at targets throughout the ride, which uses a mix of animatronics and 3D effects to bring characters to life. Alas, my wife will probably kick my butt on this ride, as she’s like a female Deadshot when it comes to these types of attractions.
Who’s up for a road trip next summer?
