It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane … It’s A Canadian Superman Coin
By Nick Tylwalk
The old school Superman motto had him fighting for truth, justice and the American way, but he’s saved the entire world and even all of existence numerous times over the decades. So it’s cool when other countries pay tribute to the Man of Steel, and our neighbors to the North have come up with a pretty cool method for doing just that.
For the second straight year, the Royal Canadian Mint is producing a series of collector coins, this time featuring four different coins celebrating the following famous DC comic book covers:
- Action Comics #1 (1938)
- Action Comics #419 (1972)
- The Adventures of Superman #596 (2001)
- Superman Annual #1 (2012)
The coins all have elements of full color in their designs, which are on the reverse sides of the coins, and they range in price from $69.95 from the Action Comics #1 1/2 ounce fine silver coin to $750.95 for the Adventures of Superman #596 14k gold coin. Those prices are Canadian, by the way.
They even come in some sweet collector packaging:
You can order the coins online, though you may have to summon Superman’s super-speed to do so, as only one of the coins is already being offered to the public, and at the time I type this, it’s already 87 percent sold out. Truth, justice and the Canadian way wait for no one, it seems.
