Venom Carnage spin-off to be darker than Amazing Spider-Man films
By Daniel Wood
Perhaps the most anticipated Amazing Spider-Man spin-off film is ‘Venom Carnage’. Venom is one of Spider-Man’s more popular villains, mainly because he’s bad-ass, but also because Venom’s characterisation often means that he can sometimes be an anti-hero and has at times even helped Spider-Man. The current Venom is Agent Flash Thompson and he’s running around with the Guardian’s of the Galaxy.
Something else that people are eagerly awaiting is the appearance of Carnage, one of Spider-Man’s more violent and out of control adversaries. He arrival to screen would surely be something to behold, but there were questions about how they’d translate Carnage’s more brutal criminal activities from the comic book to the silver screen, because they’re not exactly child friendly.
However current ‘Venom Carnage’ director and Amazing Spider-Man writer Alex Kurtzman has recently spoken to MTV about the appeal of the symbiote filled spin-off movie citing that a large part of the film’s appeal is that it can be tonally different to the Amazing Spider-Man films with Venom and Carnage allowing the film to take a darker tone.
"“The idea is that you can do things with Venom that you can’t do with Spider-Man. Venom is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker character.”"
Maybe this means that the film will be a 15 or even an 18 rating to allow for some of the blood and gore that are sure to follow from Cletus Kasady’s rather twisted origin and his subsequent murder spree as the crazed symbiote Carnage. This is potentially good news because the character deserves to be portrayed in all his glory, and not a toned down family friendly version.
