Deadpool #34: Deadpool’s Original Sin Big Secret Revealed
By Roger Lee
Deadpool #34 is primarily a flashback of Deadpool’s life in the early 1990s. While the opening page of the comic presents a letter from Marvel’s editorial department claiming they found a long-lost Deadpool story, that is, of course, just a plot device to present a book-length flashback that does lead directly to the big secret about Deadpool that has been teased for the past few issues. As it turns out…(oh, that sounds like the type of sentence that leads to a Deadpool spoiler. Please read the disclaimer before proceeding…)
"This latest issue of Deadpool is the last of the Original Sin tie-ins for our Merc with a Mouth. If you have been following the Deadpool Original Sin issues, the details of this review will not count as spoilers. If you have not kept up, then there are some spoilers below. So watch out…"

…the whole flashback story is really SHIELD agent Adsit, who had been exposed to the big eyeball explosion that released the Watcher’s secrets all over the place, telling Agent Preston what he saw from Deadpool’s past that could change ‘Pool’s whole life if revealed.
As with many Deadpool issues, this one is full of inside jokes and little Easter eggs. The biggest joke of all is the fun made of Rob Liefeld’s art style. Liefeld created Deadpool, and he is often criticized for his heavy use of inside lines and his inability to draw feet on his characters. If you will notice, Scott Koblish, the real artist in this issue, has fun with that by drawing in a Liefield-like style and never showing the characters’ feet in the flashback scenes. There are also some digs at Liefeld for his affectation of adorning Deadpool and other characters’ costumes with massive amounts of pouches. After the flashback story, which consumes most of Deadpool #34, we are returned to the present, where Koblish uses his own, more modern drawing style. And, as a final dig at Liefeld, take a look at the very first thing we see in Koblish’s first ‘modern’ panel. HA!
Deadpool #34: Making Fun of Rob Liefeld
For Deadpool fans, or for those following the Original Sin storylines, this issue is worth picking up. Be warned though, there are some major emotional moments here affecting Deadpool and his daughter. This was a very well-done ending to the Deadpool Original Sin storyline. Kudos to the writing team of Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn!
Oh, and the cover art is by Mark Brooks, and for a lucky few, there is a 3D-Dancing Deadpool variant cover.
