Top 5 Spider-Man Unlimited Tricks and Hints

facebooktwitterreddit

Spider-Man Unlimited has been out for a few days now and if your personality is as addictive as mine is you’ll have been playing it at almost every opportunity. If you’re also not particularly skilled in gaming of any kind like me you’re probably getting slightly frustrated at what seems to be an unlimited amount of times splatting against an obstacle.

Have no fear though Spider-Fans, I have trawled the interwebs for what I consider to be the top five hints, tricks and strategies to take you further in Spider-Man Unlimited than you’ve ever been before (my current best score was 42,000 something). I will warn you though that despite taking on all of this tips and hints on board, I’m still not very good.

Anyway, onwards and upwards.

Keep Your Eyes On The Vials

This is a tip straight from our sister site Bam Smack Pow who have probably been playing Spider-Man Unlimited as much as I am (which is a lot!) However they’re certainly not wrong. When things start getting really quick and enemies and different levels and obstacles are flying at you really quickly it can be a bit stressful keeping track of where exactly you’re supposed to go to avoid it all.

One simple trick is to follow the Yellow Brick Road. And, of course, by ‘Yellow Brick Road’ I mean the vials that you collect every time you run, the very same vials that act as the in-game currency. Going wherever the vials are is a safe bet because they never put you in immediate danger, a set of vials will never put you in the path of a flamethrower for example.

So remember if you get lost, what would Dorothy do.

Don’t Be Tempted To Continue

In this game having the higher leveled and rarer Spider-Men, as well as a large variety of Spider-Men is very important. If you don’t have a

high enough leveled Spider-Man because you only have a three or four star Spidey you won’t be able to progress with the campaign storyline. And if you have a variety of different Spider-Men you can exploit their varied bonuses.

With that being said it goes without saying that you do your utmost to bring in new Spider-Men as often as possible. This means saving both your standard in-game resource, which is the yellow vials, and the premium resource ISO-8 and using them purely to bring in new Spider-Man from the standard and premium portal.

I know what you’re thinking, ‘But Spider-Dan, what about the continue option when you crash out during a run’. And the simple answer is don’t do it. Save that ISO-8 and get a rare Spider-Man, the odds are that most of the time when you continue you’ll probably just crash and burn again almost immediately afterwards which would waste the precious resource. Trust me, I learned this the hard way.

Power-Ups Are Fools Gold

In every game power-ups are good, that’s why they’re power-ups. For example most of us will remember stomping around as Giant Mario after consuming that right mushroom. But I’m going to tell you guys NOT to go for the power-ups in Spider-Man Unlimited.

Don’t get me wrong the power-ups are good, you get a shield which protects you from a hit, you get spikey ball hands which protect you from a hit, you get a magnet which draws vials towards you and you get the ‘X2 power-up that doubles the vials you collect.

However they do not last for very long at all. In fact they’re positively over within what seems like seconds. This means that they’re not really worth it because most of them are positioned in slightly tricky or hard to reach places that cause you to put in some effort to get them and increase your chance or running face first into something bad. The simple answer is to just stay away unless by some happy coincidence they just happen to be in the path you’re already going.

Spidey Ops Is Your Friend

Levelling up your Spider-Men is important in this game for reasons already stated, if your levels aren’t high enough you can’t continue with the game. For people with quite a lot of spare time this means grinding on the endless runner or event runners until your Spidey character is a high enough level to continue with the main missions.

However If you’re unlikely to be able to play the game all of the time because you, I don’t know, have jobs, or children, or responsibilities, then Spidey Ops is your friend. I stumbled upon Spidey Ops because the in-game tutorial doesn’t really mention it, or if it does it completely skips over it. So here’s what it’s about.

You can send up to six of your inactive and spare Spider-Men on ‘Spidey Ops’ via the ‘My Team’ page. Your Spider-Man will then go on a off-screen mission that lasts a certain amount of time, and whether the mission is a success or not depends on the number of Spider-Men you send and their levels. But why bother?

Well, if a mission is a success you not only win some vials, but all of the Spider-Men involved also gain some experience.  The best part is that you don’t even have to be playing the game when it’s happening, you can be out with your friends, or doing some paperwork safe in the knowledge that six of your Spider-Men are slowly leveling up as you do so!

Punch Bad Guys And Win A Golden Ticket

I don’t need to tell you that you should always, when you can, be punching the hell out of those bad-guys. Not only do you rack up the combo meter when doing so, but they also drop vials whenever you take one down. Basically there’s no reason not to. (Just make sure to swipe down for every non-flying baddie, that way you don’t try and up-swipe a shielded goon and end up with egg on your face.)

There is also another reason to take on the baddies as often as you can and that is the ever elusive golden baddie. I can assure you folks the golden bad-guy isn’t a myth, I saw one myself, and then I punched him in the face. No idea what I’m talking about? Well, every now and then a rare shiny golden goon will appear and when you take them out they won’t drop vials, but rare ISO-8 instead. Making them totally worth it.

Not that reading any of these were much help for me. I’m still next to useless. Still, as Dory the fish from ‘Finding Nemo’ would say “Just keep swinging, just keep swinging.” Although on reflection it’s entirely possible I’ve misquoted her there.
