The Flash Promo Focuses On Dr. Harrison Wells

The latest promo from The CW for The Flash is probably one that gets me the most excited.  Why is that?  Well, first off, the character of physicist Dr. Harrison Wells was created specifically for the series.  Second, the actor, Tom Cavanaugh, seems to accidentally hint that Wells is more than meets the eye.

When television shows create a character out of thin air, not based on any prior media, it’s usually a giveaway that they’re aiming for a twist.  In this case, Wells’s true identity could possibly be one of any number of heroes and villains in the Flash’s mythos.  Many fans have speculated that Wells could be a future incarnation of Barry Allen or maybe even Jay Garrick, along with other characters, such as Vandal Savage.  The strongest hint was when Cavanaugh talks about the character of Wells and at 0:32 he accidentally says:

"… But as he goes about making amends with his abilities and with his team …"

So, what are these “abilities” he’s talking about?  Then, at 0:42, Wells starts to get excited at Barry’s new powers, but ends on a tone that sounds more fanatical than inspirational.  Could he be a future villain or someone that we’re very familiar with in the comics?  Check out the promo yourself:

The CW will premiere The Flash on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 8:00PM EST.
