Fox News Dislikes Female Thor, Wants Wonder Woman In Short-Shorts
By Nick Tylwalk
Ah, yeah. So as an offshoot of a Sunday discussion about how the upcoming version of Popeye was “wussifying” the character by taking away his anchor tattoo and pipe, Tucker Carlson and the Fox & Friends crew turned their attention to some other maters even nearer and dearer to our hearts as comic fans.
Here’s how Carlson sets it up:
"But if you think that’s bewildering, take a look at this. This is Thor. Now you may notice something a little different. Popeye lost something, Thor has added something, a couple of them. Let’s see if you can notice what they are."
In case that was too subtle, he’s talking about the breasts of the new Thor. As Carlson puts it, “Thor is now a chick.” Okay, thanks for clearing that up.
Clayton Morris then uses that to segue in a direction where it seems like he’s upset that Wonder Woman is getting “shoved into” Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice instead of getting her own film. He’s also upset about the fact that Gal Gadot’s movie costume has colors that are too dark. I actually can see that as a valid criticism.
But nope, it’s a bait-and-switch because he’s upset about her pants in the comics:
"Take a look at what they’ve done to Wonder Woman in the comic books now. They’ve taken her from that beautiful … you know, the short-shorts? Like that you might wear rollerblading, I don’t know. And they’ve stuck her in a pants suit, look at this, like she’s on her way to an accountant’s office."
Carlson goes on to make a sarcastic quip about how that’s a “good Islamic point” and that the female characters need to be covered lest it incite the men. The final conclusion is that the new, more modest outfit is less patriotic than the original, but there’s no real direct link between them to determine how the hosts arrive there.
Check out the entire clip below, cringing at yet another example of how general media often gets it wrong when it starts discussing comics.
