Chris Pratt On Saturday Night Live: No Star-Lord, But Marvel Can’t Fail Was Cool
By Nick Tylwalk
Anyone hoping to see Chris Pratt in a Star-Lord parody last night on the Season 40 (!) premiere of Saturday Night Live obviously came away disappointed.
Still, they didn’t leave Pratt’s Marvel connection completely untouched. One of the better segments in last night’s show dealt with the hit streak that Marvel is on right now, and how after Guardians of the Galaxy, it can make a movie about anything turn into $3 billion. That includes a movie “about a guy who talks with ants” (Ant-Man, obviously).
The sketch also claimed Marvel doesn’t even need comic books any more, but can simply create blockbusters by pointing at random words in the dictionary to come up with Marvel’s Creatures of the Cosmos, putting a pastry chef, a Harlem Globetrotter, an alien real estate sign-spinner, a dude dressed as Grimace and an office chair together to save the day. Hey, all you need is Pratt and “Hooked on a Feeling” and you’re gold!
As the guy in the Nove Corps outfit put it, “They’re humanity’s last hope? Well I’m on board!”
Check out the whole clip to see what Marvel can do with random people on a bus, a nondescript woman named Pam, and Star Wars. You may have heard of that last one already.
