Whatever a Spider Can has a new reporter – Meet Travis Ellis!
By Travis Ellis
Hello fellow webheads (can we even consider ourselves to be that? Is this something that we would want to be called? I’m actually curious now!) My name is Travis Maxwell Ellis, I’m an 18 year old nerd who loves history, music, comics (of course), movies, video games, reading, psychology, and more but I enjoy just generally locking myself in a room and reading about Spidey himself more than anything.
I’m currently going through my first year of College; I’m planning and hoping to be an English major. Thus far that is the goal and the path I’m currently taking. Writing and reading are also some serious passions of mine. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t enjoy the power to write! But aside from that I’m not sure what else to type up let’s get on topic!
Why do you like Spider-Man?: I was often times picked on as kid I would feel like an outcast. Living with Autism Spectrum Disorder along with the bullying really stinks. I had troubles making friends, everyone I ever cared about would end up flowing through my hands like sand. In a lot of ways Spider-Man made me feel like someone else got it. He had troubles in the beginning with women, he was nerdy, and abused. But he learned how to overcome the negativity. When danger struck he was ready, he wasn’t the most popular, or the most athletic. But he had heart, and it often felt like it could have been me under that mask. The sense of understanding does wonders for a young kid with not a lot going for him. Overtime the lessons learned by Spider-Man were also lessons I could apply to my own life. As Spidey grew, so did I. He was, is, and will always be a source of inspiration, love, and care. I’ve never found a source of happiness quite like reading about Peter Parker and seeing how far he’s come.

What is your most favorite Spider-Man Arc? : I really have too many to name! I absolutely love anything that has to do with a Symbiote. Venom, Carnage, Toxin, it doesn’t bother me I love them all. I also love Black Suit Spider-Man it’s just a personal preference. If I had to pick a single arc it would have to be the dark, moody, and very well done Spider-Verse so far it’s something I’m shocked by. It’s good, thought out, and it makes your skin crawl in parts!
What would your favorite movie in the list of Spider-Man movies be?: I have such a strong attraction to Spider-Man 2 that one was the first one I can remember watching and actually enjoying. When Doc Ock wakes up in the hospital it remains the scariest thing 8 year old me has ever seen. I had no clue you could sink so low in movie theater seats!
Last one I promise!; who in all of the Spider-Verse would you say is your most favorite character?: Without a doubt Mayday Parker, MC2’s Spider-Girl, the daughter of Spider-Man! She was gorgeously drawn, a very strong character, with an even stronger supporting cast. She has great villains, you got to see a retired Spider-Man in his full glory. You got the same sort of story just made in a special updated way. She was so unlike her dad in every way but at the end of the day she was his daughter and had his luck and she had to learn the lessons he learned! It was made with such heart and such care, I’m blown back by it! I’m biting my nails in anticipation for her return in The Amazing Spider-Man vol 3 #8!
