Big Batman: Endgame Spoiler from Scott Snyder!

Batman: Endgame is the newest and final chapter in the New 52 rebirth of Bruce Wayne. As we reported earlier, the story arc finds scribe Scott Snyder pitting The Caped Crusader against the Justice League, likely motivated by a secret villain. In a recent interview, Snyder discusses just who that might be and the big twist at the end of issue one!

"I was trying to think of a message the Joker could send that would say, “We used to be allies” — at least in Joker’s mind — “We used to have a bond of some kind, and now that’s broken.” This story’s been planned since, really, we were finishing Death of the Family, in some capacity. So I was thinking about what’s the best way to send that message. You know, the people you trust the most are going to betray you, or that your friends are now your enemies; don’t trust anyone. It just occurred to me, “Well, of course, go after Batman’s closest allies and turn them against him.”So for me it was really about giving a sense of scope to the story, saying Batman — you know, it’s his 75th anniversary — we wanted to show why he’s the most badass superhero in the world. So there’s an element of just fun to seeing him fight the Justice League and that kind of child fantasy question of “Who would win in a fight?” But at the same time, there was also a really strong story purpose for it, where I feel like it fits exactly the kind of psychological profile and purpose of the Joker this time around.…Whether I ever use him again or not, I can’t say, but I would imagine, my feeling is, this is the end of my Joker story.I mean, I hope they’re excited by this, man. Ultimately, I would just say that if the Justice League is Jokerized in the first issue, you know we’re not going to go smaller. [Laughs] So it’s meant to be something that is a celebration of both Batman and Joker on their 75th anniversaries. It will have the biggest cast we’ve used in anything Batman, and it’s also a story that’s designed to say goodbye to certain elements and status quo factors in the mythology of Batman so that we can try new things afterwards. So it really is a transitional story where it is what it says it is: it’s an endgame. It ends certain things and begins new things. So it’s a story that means a lot to me and Greg and we’ve been building towards for two years, really, since we did Death of the Family. It’s also designed as a “thank you” to fans, if I’m being perfectly honest."

What do you think, Bat-fans? Does a Joker-controlled Justice League scare you or do you think it’s silly? What are your thoughts on Endgame?
