Final Fantasy Style Catwoman
At San Diego Comic Con there was a very unique Batman action figure on display, a Batman designed by Final Fantasy artist Tetsuya Nomura. Now there’s another re-design by
Nomura, this time it’s Catwoman getting the Final Fantasy treatment.
"Tetsuya Nomura, the man responsible for creating Kingdom Hearts as well as designing some of Final Fantasy’s most iconic characters, has unveiled a new interpretation of Catwoman, and it’s pretty eccentric.Earlier this year at SDCC, Nomura’s striking interpretation of Batman was revealed. Now, it seems Selina Kyle has got the fantastical treatment. The remodel was done to celebrate an upcoming line of Square Enix and DC Comics-produced collectible figurines, which will be sold under the title Variant Play Arts Kai series."
While I love Tetsuya Nomura and his art, I have to say I’m not sure how I feel about his Catwoman redesign as she looks like the Xenomorph from the Alien games and movies. It’s not just the tail either, her stance, her body armor, even her claws remind me of the Alien. Admittedly in a world where Catwoman looks like this Batman would have to look like Tetsuya’s Final Fantasy redesign of the Dark Knight. I do like that this particular look for Selina is not overly sexual, and I think with a look like this she might get more respect from her fellow villains, they might fear her if she looks like something out of a nightmare.
