Alex Ross Does Awesome Variant Cover For New Marvel Star Wars #1
By Nick Tylwalk
If you’re a Star Wars fan and you aren’t already properly excited for the 2015 return of the comic license to Marvel, I don’t know what to tell you. Dark Horse certainly did some excellent work in its time steering the ship, but the lineup of talent working on the new series for Marvel is absolutely top-notch.
That extends to things like variant covers too. Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive earlier today, showing off a gorgeous Alex Ross cover to Star Wars #1 that you can see right here:
Pretty sweet, no? EW also goes into detail on how it’s an homage to the original Star Wars #1 by Marvel from 1977, which actually started out adapting the first movie before veering off into its own stories.
The new series will be written by Jason Aaron and illustrated (at least to start) by John Cassaday. Initially announced at SDCC this summer, it’s supposed to be set between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, and while Aaron has said it will have an ensemble focus, he’s also called Luke Skywalker “the engine that powers the narrative.”
Marvel also has several other Star Wars ongoing and limited series ready to go for 2015.
