Star-Lord’s Awesome Mix Is Coming Out On November 17 … On Cassette!

Young adults, teens and children might not understand what I’m talking about, but I’m old enough to remember when a mix tape was literally a tape. As in a cassette tape, a music format that was awesome for portability and sucked in just about every other possible way.

Nevertheless, Star Lord’s Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 was an important part of Guardians of the Galaxy, and it was very much a product of its time. That means it was a cassette tape, and while it’s already available digitally and on CD and vinyl, it hasn’t been released yet in its true form.

That will change on November 17, as Billboard reported earlier today that you’ll be able to buy the Awesome Mix on cassette on that date. Though there’s no word on how many tapes are being produced — or how Disney is doing it, since it hasn’t released anything on cassette in more than a decade — we can tell you that it will be available at independent stores that are participating in Record Store Day.

The worry will be that you might not have any way to listen to it. but since each tape will come with a digital copy, you can keep yours in pristine condition even if that somewhat misses the point. Just don’t leave it on your dashboard on a hot day, Trust me on that.
