Ultron’s got a bit of an Oedipus complex

Actually, scratch that. Especially for a robot, Ultron has a gigantic, full on Oedipus complex. As for how he thinks he would consummate any such relationship … you know what? We’re better off not knowing.

In case you’re thinking, “Wait, robots don’t have mothers,” you’re absolutely right. But Ultron doesn’t think the same way many mechanical beings do, so along with a strong loathing of his creator Hank Pym, he also has an irrational attraction to the woman who was Pym’s girlfriend at the time, Janet Van Dyne, better known as the Wasp.

Many of Ultron’s appearances in various media have some kind of situation where he finds himself unable to do harm to the Wasp. He even turned himself into a robotic version of Janet in one of his 21st Century comics storylines. This same instinct might not make it to the film version, though if it is Tony Stark who invents Ultron, it’s possible the robot could transfer his feelings to Pepper Potts instead, who essentially is to Stark in the movies what Van Dyne was to Pym in the comics.

Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t listed in the cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but you never know if she’ll show up in a cameo.
