The regular Thor must have one dark secret. Something that Nick Fury whispered to him during Original Sin has left him unworthy of carrying Mjolnir, though we still don’t know exactly what that might be.

Alas, Odin’s wife Freyja was pretty determined that there needs to be a Thunder God to protect Midgard, and either she or someone else changes the inscription on the hammer to read “if she be worthy.” Then an unknown female lifted Mjolnir to become the Goddess of Thunder.

It could be Freyja herself, or it might not be. Conveniently, the costume worn by the female Thor includes a helmet that also covers part of her face, similar to the one sported by Eric Masterson. That’s going to prolong the mystery, as writer Jason Aaron says that not even Odin knows who this Thor really is.

All we do know is that she’s worthy. And as we’ve seen here, that’s what really matters.
